Reliving the days
Suddenly...or maybe not so...after watching Long Strange Trip, and feeling sad... really sad about how this great scene dwindled into a hot mess, been going back to listen to the shows I attended. This one was one of my first while I was early in HS, and while I was sneaking away from private school to see shows during the '77-78 run of great shows, I had no idea what I was seeing in the making. Along comes '79, just before my 17 birthday, and remember the snow and cold, blizzards that the tour was being chased by. This show really warmed things up... Listening to it, it was a good, solid show from that tour... really seemed to kick into gear with FOTD, on through what was normally shows that were slow to get out of gate... wrapped up with a sweet, rockin' Deal. Donna's voice gets a lot of criticism for "wailing" out of tune, though I've been told that the monitors on stage were so loud, it was hard for her to really keep her pitch in synch. This show the sound seemed pretty dialed in and her vocal was really there. Second set is totally solid from top to bottom, and Donna shines on FTHOM with the band really in the groove on this musically funkily-noted tune. Really some stellar moments (SOF>He's>Truckin;) in this show, and I've been digging Phil's booming base lines, and really hearing how Bobby plays some intricate notes to keep it all held down with the drummers. Worth having this show in your collection.

no rythm devil's
No drums and space at this show odd to say the least.Still a good show top to bottom. That said though with all of the other shows during this tour is kinda middle of the road. Sounds great though

The mama tried, jack a roe, and Bertha are fabulous takes, extending beyond normal capacity, Garcia truly shining at his very best...
A fine recording, fullest and cleanest from the list..

Like a '76 -- slow, sweet and sticky
This show reminds me of what I like about '76 -- slow and jazzy. TLEO is particularly nice, but I also like the He's Gone. Pretty funny to hear some calls for Alligator at the beginning of that one -- I don't think they really had that in the rotation in '79, but it was an interesting shout-out :).
Sound is great on this one -- as always from Charlie Miller. But the Boys are on and the setlist is nice (could do without the From the Heart of Me, but hey, the rest is music to my ears :) ).
